Purple Urkle - A Strain Review

Smoke Sesh with Purple Urkle

Some people have never heard of the Purple Urkle strain, but everyone knows who Steve Urkle is! When I first heard that our dispensary was getting some Purple Urkle in, I knew I just had to try some. The star from the old-time tv show “Family Matters” is causing this legendary strain to gain some new buzz. Whether you are curious about what the famous indica-dominant hybrid strain is “hitting for” (as the kids say these days) or you are a Urkle fan yourself, we are here to set the record straight about this mysterious strain.

Origins Overview

The origins of Purple Urkle actually date back to the 1980s. The lineage is not definitively known but it is thought to be a phenotype or offspring of Mendocino Purp or Grandaddy Purp, first appearing in California. It has a deliciously complex aroma and flavor profile with notes of skunk, earth, berry, and grape. Depending on where you get your Purple Urkle you may even get a whiff of citrus or hints of tropical fruit. Like most strains, Purple Urkle has been crossbred numerous times over the years, so  each grower will come out with a unique batch. If you are a purple weed lover you will certainly appreciate the speckled violet hues and grape-like undertones in dense, sticky Purple Urkle buds … along with the amber colored pistils candy coated in crystalline trichomes.

About the smoke

I grabbed a Purple Urkle pre-rolled joint one night after leaving work. I popped the lid open, the joint slid out right into the palm of my hand. I brought it up to my nose and inhaled slowly as deeply as I could, as if I was in a meditation session right then and there. I can instantly pinpoint the “purple” - which was a grape almost berry scent mingled in with very smooth, almost creamy earth notes. I had to take another whiff because it was just too good. I will always appreciate the sweeter smelling strains.

What would be my ideal state of being while enjoying this Urkle pre-roll? Well, between the relaxing body tingles that creep over you and the uplifting cerebral clarity it brings, I would certainly be smoking this with some good company. I called up one of my dearest friends who lives in my hometown. As I sat there puffing this lovely joint, I could feel the weight from my day and the thoughts rise off my shoulders and evaporate. I felt much lighter. My mind felt more clear and I could focus on the sensations and emotions I was feeling as I chatted with my old pal. We sat on the phone for hours - reminiscing, catching each other up on our lives and our struggles, and even had some very ethereal, even revelatory musings together. I schooled her on the strain and told her how the actor, Jaleel White, who played Steve Urkle actually has his own uniquely cultivated version of the strain out in Cali. We laughed, we cried, we even prayed. The night unraveled into something so beautiful and unexpected. And I am convinced it wouldn’t have resonated with me the same without help from “that purp”! Your mind and your body will feel so at ease. It felt like I had found my inner peace again, amidst all the things that had zipped through my mind earlier that day.

Purple Urkle is truly a versatile strain. If you are an artist of any kind, I would highly recommend this strain to help inspire you and get your creative gears turning. For those who enjoy meditation, you will find the feelings of clarity and stillness very therapeutic. It will also put you in the perfect mood for a date night or even chill night alone to simply unwind. The high actually made me feel like I was smoking a true hybrid. It felt like I had the best of both worlds in terms of sativa and indica characteristics. Grab yourself a Purple Urkle pre-roll today at Rize while you can! Trust me, you won’t regret it.
